Most people love horror stories of all kinds – especially when they happen to other people. Ghost stories usually take the reign of a good horror story, but so do epic fails and mishaps on important days and events. Weddings are a great example since they are important events that take months of planning. Sometimes, no matter how much preparation took place, wedding horror stories still happen. We’ve collected some of the best wedding horror stories on the internet that will send shudders down your spine; so much that they just might make you want to stay single for the rest of your life.

Some of these stories include guests accidentally wearing the same dress, falling wedding cakes, drunk guests, and even a long-winded speech about a bride’s breasts. Grab some popcorn, sit back, and read some of the best wedding horror stories on the internet that will most definitely make you cringe. After reading these, we’re not sure we’ll be getting married anytime soon (or ever).

The divorce rate in the US is the highest in the world, with over 750,000 divorces happening each year. Luckily, many people who get divorced do end up getting married again. Yet this Twitter user accidentally made an indirect reference to his friend’s previous marriage when he gave a speech. He said, “I was best man at my friend’s 2nd wedding. I started my speech with “welcome back everyone.” He was not happy.”

Not only did he welcome everyone to his friend’s second wedding, but he also made the bride feel uncomfortable. Now, she had to spend the rest of the day thinking about her husband’s previous marriage (via Twitter).

Being a planner for a wedding is most certainly stressful. They have to organize the entire wedding, guests, food, and location. Luckily, there are people out there who thrive on planning weddings like this Twitter user. Unfortunately, it’s not always smooth sailing. They shared their experience with “momzilla,” a mother who asked them to change the date of the wedding a few months into planning.

They said, “I thought it was kind of weird and called the couple to confirm the change. NOPE! Couple did not know anything about the date change and said to completely ignore the groom’s mom and call them if she tried to get in contact.” That’s a monstrous red flag. It was a smart move from the wedding planner to double check with the bride and groom, otherwise, there would’ve been some serious trouble (via Reddit).

Finding out someone is wearing the same dress as you at a wedding, or any event for that matter is pretty disheartening. This Twitter user shared their experience at a wedding when all three of the grandmothers showed up unexpectedly wearing the same dress. It’s one of those horror stories you hope never actually happens. Honestly, it’s quite cute, and something funnier than not. It just makes for better pictures, at the end of the day. It’s better than someone showing up to a wedding wearing white, which has happened before (via Twitter).

This is one of those wedding horror stories you wish never happens. This Twitter user failed at being romantic. He fell over as he tried to carry his wife. All everyone could do was laugh since it was an accident. At least it was after their wedding ceremony since her white dress probably had grass stains on it. This Twitter user said, “tried to be romantic and carry my wife out of the ceremony. Luckily, this was after she said, “I do.” Now, she has no choice but to stick with him for the rest of her life (via Twitter).

If you’ve ever ripped your pants in high school, you’re not alone. Unfortunately, just because it happened once, doesn’t mean it can’t happen again. This Twitter user said, “I danced so hard I ripped my pants.” We can all agree that ripping your pants while dancing is better than ripping your pants from falling. At least they look like they are having a good time. These kinds of horror stories are inevitable. They make us feel a bit better about our clumsiness too (via Twitter).

Like the Twitter user above, this user shares one of the most embarrassing wedding horror stories out there. They said, “my brother really wanted to make an entrance at my cousin’s wedding. He split his pants when he tried to do a cartwheel. When he returned his rented tux, he told them it ripped when he kneeled at the altar. They believed him.” This is extremely clever, and we’re surprised by his wit. How could anyone distrust that? If only they knew the truth. He saved himself a decent amount of money with that white lie (via Twitter).

Getting married is extremely nerve-wracking. We can’t blame the groom for his nerves. We’ve all tried to keep it cool and composed in a stressful situation before and ended up completely failing. This Twitter user shares one of their wedding horror stories and said, “I thought I was making a calm, composed face as my wife came down the aisle. I found out this was the face I made.” He was horrified. Hopefully, the bride didn’t notice their face and was too nervous herself to pay attention (via Twitter).

If a couple can’t handle picking colors out for their wedding, then they probably shouldn’t get married. This is one of those pre-wedding horror stories that might’ve saved a lot of heartache in the end. This Twitter user shared their experience working in a store and witnessing a couple getting into a fight. Apparently, this couple walked into a store, argued over the vest styles and colors, and got into a fight. The bride ended up crying and having someone else pick her up. The Twitter user never saw them again. We can only imagine what ended up happening between the couple, but it probably wasn’t good (via Tywy90).

Mothers-in-law always seem to cause trouble. Sometimes, they’re the catalyst to the horror stories witnessed at weddings. This Twitter user shared when their MIL brought platters of food to their catered wedding reception, so “their side of the family would have something to eat that they liked.” That’s bad news. We’re wondering what their partner said about it since it’s quite rude. Luckily, it’s an unspoken rule that you don’t necessarily have to get along with your in-laws (via sdsmith987).

Another Twitter user shared one of the worst mother-in-law horror stories on this list. Apparently, their MIL wore a wedding dress to their wedding. We can’t even begin to imagine the anger and resentment they must’ve felt towards their MIL. Was she jealous and trying to steal the show? Who does that? That’s the first wedding rule, never wear white. Maybe they should take that as a red flag and get out while they can (via AmyPennza).

We all desire that romantic first kiss, however, this isn’t always what happens. This Twitter user had their first kiss in a CVS parking lot. When the pandemic canceled their wedding in April 2020, their friend suggested they have the wedding at the location of their first kiss – a CVS parking lot – and they did. This is one of those horror stories that are so bad, they end up being quite romantic. It’s one of the most unique wedding locations we’ve ever heard of, to say the least (via Atypical_Aly).

Measurements for wedding dresses and tuxedos are one of the most important parts of a wedding. If the tailor gets it wrong, it could ruin your entire outfit. Even though these mishaps are rare, they do happen. This Twitter shares one of their horror stories where their brother’s pants showed up eight inches too short. They’re going to remember that for the rest of their lives, and what’s even worse, is that it’s documented in every photograph. Hopefully, it’s something they can laugh about (via hallehalbkat).

Again, mothers-in-law always seem to cause wedding horror stories. Apparently, the mother of the groom showed up to his wedding in a white formal gown, with a mini veil on a fascinator, sobbed throughout the entire ceremony, and then tried to interrupt the bride and groom every time they tried to dance. It sounds like this mother has some serious attachment issues, and needs to work on letting her son go. If she’s like this at the wedding, we can only imagine what she’ll do after they’re married (via Bestpirateever).

This Twitter user shared a wedding horror story where their coworker, cousin, and aunt all wore the same dress to their wedding. We always hope people don’t end up wearing the same outfit to a wedding, and almost hold our breath beforehand. When it does happen, there’s nothing we can do except accept the situation and laugh. Maybe one of them brought another dress in case something like that happened (via MelissaBCavazos).

This Twitter user shares one of those horror stories that make us cringe. They said, “watched in shock as my cousin and her husband’s cake fell as they cut it. They laughed and had a great reception. Years later I clicked on a link about wedding fails and saw a picture of them when it happened. They had no idea they went viral.” It looks like their fame isn’t over, yet. At least they got something out of it. Millions of people on the internet found it entertaining (via Parkviewtrack).

It’s never pleasant watching our siblings intimately interact with their partners, especially because we’ve grown up seeing them at their worst and witnessing their most disgusting habits. This Twitter user is no exception, and one of her wedding horror stories involved watching her brother kiss his new wife. Her face says it all, and let’s just say, she does not look happy (via Codytveit).

At a wedding, the bride is obviously the star of the show. If something bad happens to the bride, it’s usually disastrous for the overall production. This Twitter user shared one of the funniest wedding horror stories on the list when this bride was swallowed by tons of birdseed as she walked out of the church. Apparently, “someone wasn’t watching how much birdseed the bridal party took.” She probably plucked bird seed out of her hair for weeks afterward. At least she was already married (via Shays151).

We’ve read some horrendous wedding horror stories on this list, but this one has to top it all off. At this wedding, the church was overpacked with 100 people and there was no air conditioning in the church on a 90-degree Iowa summer day. The ceremony lasted three hours because everyone wanted to recite poems, dinner was delayed two and a half hours, the bride fainted from lack of food, and, to top it all off, the best man and one of the groomsmen were blacked out drunk and got into a fight over one of the bridesmaids. This sounds like a complete and utter failure. If we were the husband or wife, we’d want a re-do. Let’s hope their honeymoon was better than their wedding (via Tinycowz).

It’s an honor to give a speech at someone’s wedding, which is why you need to be respectful and choose your words wisely. This Twitter user shared a wedding horror story when their nephew’s best man gave a 10-minute speech about the bride’s perfect breasts. That makes us cringe in horror. We can only imagine how awkward that must’ve been for everyone listening, and the groom especially. We’re wondering how that friendship ended up after the wedding (via MasterJediMara).

It’s a shame when negative things happen to you at a wedding, but when it happens to someone else, it’s funnier and easier to handle. Wedding horror stories that involve humorous accidents are entertaining. This Twitter user shared, “I went to a wedding on a beach in Florida. While the bride was walking down the “aisle” a flock of seagulls flew over the audience and one of them dropped a fish head on the mother of the bride.” We would’ve loved to see that happen – from a distance. Hopefully, it didn’t leave a stain or smell on her dress (via lamlshlsh1).

A mother-in-law strikes again! Horror stories that involve irreversible mishaps are disheartening. This Twitter user said, “we handed all our wedding presents to my new mother-in-law, and she accidentally set them down on a flame. A couple of guests saw it and thought it was a cool party trick until she started screaming.” That certainly ruined the wedding because gifts are one of the best parts of a wedding (via ChubsmcLubs).

Growing up, brothers love picking on their sisters. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop when they’re adults, they just get cleverer. This Twitter user walked around their wedding with a bright blue mouth, from the mint their brother gave them. They said, “turns out the mint my brother gave me before he walked me down the aisle was also my ‘something blue ‘… Thanks, Patrick.” This is one of those wedding horror stories that can’t be undone. It looks like she made the best of it, though. It certainly allowed for unique photographs (via Dianneebee).

It’s quite rude when someone steals the spotlight at a wedding. Unfortunately, it does happen, but you just hope it doesn’t happen to you. A friend of the groom brought their new girlfriend, a stripper, to the wedding. She proposed to him on the dance floor and completely stole the show. What’s worse is that they broke up a few weeks later, so it was all for nothing (via Jen_Murray70).

Couples spend hundreds of dollars on their wedding cake, and sometimes more. They require a lot of time, energy, and skill from the bakers. It’s an investment that’s worth the effort when the cake is extraordinary. Unfortunately, this couple experienced one of the worst horror stories out there, when their cake fell to the ground just as they were about to cut it. If that happened to us, we’d probably still try to save the bits that didn’t touch the floor (via Kueez).

You get a free pass to celebrate on your wedding day, but some people take it way too far. This Twitter user shared a wedding horror story about a groom who took his drinking a bit too far and ended up getting wasted. As a result, his friends dragged him into the back seat of his car, and then onto a luggage cart to get him to his hotel room. Better yet, the father of the bride took photos of his head in the toilet to use as blackmail. That’s clever. Kudos to that father (via Twitter).

The domino effect is real. This Twitter user shared one of the most hilarious horror stories on this list. They said, “my husband’s grandmother tripped while getting pictures and we tried to catch her. Instead, we all ended up on the floor.” At least it was all of them, which makes it less embarrassing. It’s something to bond over several years afterward (via mmklintworth).

It’s romantic when a man cares for his woman. It goes without saying that at a wedding, the groom should watch after his bride, no matter what, even if it ends up being one of those horror stories people talk about for a long time. At this wedding, the bride and groom was asked to leave the church to get photos of them walking.

Then, “the bride tripped over her dress and started to fall face forward. Luckily her new husband quickly reacted and grabbed her, but it sent him spinning into the crowd. He ended up ripping his pants in the fiasco, but the bride’s dress was left untouched.” Honestly, it’s better that the groom’s pants ripped and not the bride’s dress (via Kueez).

Catching the bouquet gives a lot of us single people hope. We take it as a sign from the universe that we’re close to meeting the love of our life. This Twitter user took it a bit too far when she had to fight a 10-year-old for the bouquet. As the Maid of Honor, she assumed she had first dibs, and rightfully so. In the end, she let the 10-year-old have it anyway. Luckily, her mom made her give it back to her. Let’s hope she met the love of her life afterward (via awise1214).

50. Welcome Back
