Many people have a burning desire to meet a celebrity. We see these celebrities on television and in movies, and they become a sort of hero to us. Unfortunately, incredibly awkward random celebrity encounters do happen. We may end up running into our favorite movie star in the most embarrassing way possible, like spilling mustard on their table or almost getting run over by their car.

So after reading these stories, you might change your mind about meeting a celebrity in real life. Maybe it’s best to blend into the background and hope you see them from afar. After all, a lot of these celebrities aren’t who we think they are. These stories prove that, so read them below.

The Star Trek franchise is one of the most popular in the world. Throughout the past several decades, the movies made their way to fame through their unique storyline. Leonard Nimoy played Spock, a wise character who is largely adored and loved. This Reddit user shared that their mom accidentally slammed the door in Leonard Nimoy’s face. It could’ve gone a lot worse, though, as he could’ve been pretty rude about it. If she’d done that to any other actor, that might’ve happened. Of all the people in the world, it had to be a famous actor (via World Travelling).

In the 1960s, Batman was a famous TV series that took the world by storm. It was incredibly unique for that period, which is why it’s so widely known. Some, like Adam West who portrayed Batman, aren’t as kind as you hope they are. This Reddit user shared their experience greeting Adam West by saying, “Have a good evening, Mister West,” to which he snorted and replied “whatever.” At least this person stuck up for himself. But West replied and told him to “go to Hell.” Just because he’s famous doesn’t mean he can treat people with disrespect. It looks like he needs to learn a thing or two about courtesy and treating people as you want to be treated (via World Travelling).

This Reddit user shared an awkward celebrity encounters when they met the famous singer Avril Lavigne. They said, “back when Avril Lavigne was famous I was walking to the AGO in Toronto. There was a girl in front of me, with her a** crack hanging out, wearing punk clothing.” It seems like that’s a common outfit for people at an Avril Lavigne concert. The Reddit user “said to my friend, “Oh look, it’s another f**king Avril wanna-be.” The girl turns around…and shouts, “I AM AVRIL!” Talk about mortifying. At least Avril stuck up for herself, although she seemed kind of rude about it. To be fair, this Reddit user didn’t say the nicest comment, so maybe they should both apologize to each other and move on with their lives (via Reddit).

Ron Jeremy isn’t who we think he is. This is one of the most awkward, horrible celebrity encounters out there. Some celebrities think that because they’re famous, they can treat people disrespectfully. This Reddit user said, “about three years ago, Ron Jeremy and Pastor Craig Gross went head-to-head (pun intended) to debate the pros/cons of pornography. At the time, I was an intern working for a local alternative paper and was assigned to cover the event. Anyway, I stayed after the event for press photos and a quote and decided, on a whim, to ask Ron Jeremy for his signature.”

We’d think the worst they could say is no, but it turns out there are a lot worse things they could say. “Ron Jeremy turned to me, looked me up and down, focused in on my chest, and then asked if he could, “sign my boobies.” Yes, he said boobies.” Not only is this creepy, but it reaches another level of disrespect. She said, “I declined/blushed and he said, all accusatory, “Are you one of those Christian girls?” to which I responded with a hearty (though somewhat flustered…) “no.” I had told another person at the paper and during a staff meeting, the story was shared in front of the entire office. I think I was a hundred shades of pink.” Now, this Reddit user is made out to seem like a bad person because Ron Jeremy accused her. He should be publicly shamed (via Reddit).

It’s true that some celebrities think they’re immune to the law. Even though they’re frequently driven by chauffeurs, they also choose to buy expensive cars and drive themselves. Michael Douglas is one of these people. By this Reddit user’s post, it sounds like he had a bit too much fun driving his car around recklessly. Seriously, though, he needs to take it easy because he could’ve hurt this person. Even though this is one of those awkward celebrity encounters that has a happy ending, it didn’t start very well. And it could’ve ended a lot worse. At least he got the “a-ok” sign from him and shot him a double thumbs up. It’s a subtle exchange that this guy will remember forever, even though Douglas probably won’t (via World Travelling).

When we get texts at the wrong moment, it can be detrimental. If we’re having a text conversation about one of our friends and that friend happens to be looking at our phone the moment a text about them comes in, it could destroy a friendship. A similar thing happened to this Reddit user’s friend, who tried to get a photo with Weird Al. He’s known for his eccentric style and music. When this Reddit user’s friend tried to get a photo, his phone received a text about getting the mail. Instead of taking the photo, Weird Al responded to the text. First of all, that’s crossing someone’s boundaries, and secondly, he replied rudely. This guy was in a motorbike accident – give him a break. This is one of those celebrity encounters that make Weird Al seem like an annoying person with a big ego (via World Travelling).

Some celebrities can’t take a good joke, like James Franco. These celebrities focus on their looks, and if they’re not up to par, then they probably feel like a failure. Honestly, James Franco was enjoying his cup of coffee when two strangers walked up to him and asked him about his mustache and No Shave November, so it’s understandable he was angry. But at the very least, he could’ve cracked a good joke and given this Reddit user something to laugh at. Instead, he had one of those embarrassing celebrity encounters that left a bad taste in his mouth. They meant well, but the actor took it the wrong way (via World Travelling).

C’mon Shaq, give this poor woman your autograph. Some of these celebrities have huge egos and expect everyone to know who they are. That’s what fame does to you. As one of the NBA’s tallest players, this woman still couldn’t remember his name since she’s probably not a huge Laker fan. At least she tried but was shut down by the guy. Let’s hope she didn’t tell her nephew, who was a huge fan (via World Travelling).

We’ll give you a little background information. Shane MacGowan is an Irish-English singer in The Pogues, a Celtic punk band. You might’ve heard “Fairytale of New York” during the holidays, which is one of their songs. MacGowan is known for his rudeness and bad manners, so it comes as no surprise that this Reddit user had one of the most horrible celebrity encounters out there. Who pees on someone else’s shoes? Not only is it gross, but it’s downright disrespectful. This guy is known for his semi-toothless grin and gross appearance, so we wouldn’t put the act past him (via World Travelling).

Even though this wasn’t one of those rude celebrity encounters, it’s still awkward. We all know the Backstreet Boys and were maybe even fans back in the day. This Reddit user shared their experience meeting AJ from the Backstreet Boys. They said, “I was at a bar in Hollywood tonight, and was talking with this girl. Another guy comes up, and it’s clear they know each other, and he joins in the conversation. After a while, she talks about how her friend had her first concert not too long ago, and it was a Backstreet Boys concert. I laugh a bit at how a 27-year-old has that as her first concert.” To be fair, it is cringe-worthy that your first concert is at 27, but we digress.

They continued to say, “the girl starts asking “Are you laughing about the Backstreet Boys? Don’t you know who this guy is? He’s a Backstreet Boy!” I don’t believe her at first and said so. He then puts out his hand and goes “Hi, I’m A.J.” Sure enough, it clicked, and I was just laughing about the Backstreet Boys in front of a Backstreet Boy. He was cool about it, but def was a foot-in-mouth moment.” It sounds like this Reddit user learned his lesson, and quickly. We never know who we’re standing in front of. Hopefully, he backtracked his words and made up for the comment (via Reddit).

Considering this took place in a Blockbuster, we know it’s an old story. Nevertheless, this is an easy mistake for anyone. If you didn’t think someone was saying “Cheadle”, and a famous person would call to ask about a movie, then “cheetah” sounds like your next best bet. These embarrassing celebrity encounters keep getting better and better. Surely, this isn’t the first time Don Cheadle’s last name was mistaken for cheetah, since the two sound very similar. We never heard if the encounter went well or not. Let’s hope Cheadle didn’t see the word cheetah on the paper(via World Travelling).

This British-born Canadian actor portrayed Jack Bauer in 24. Based on this Reddit user’s post, Kiefer Sutherland needs to learn some manners. Did his mother ever teach him not to curse at strangers? This Reddit user was trying to do the nice thing and respectfully had him his money. He only said, “you need to learn how to shut the f**k up.” Who says that to someone, especially someone who’s helping you? That says a lot about his character. These celebrity encounters show us the true colors of some of these people, and they’re not looking good. It’s completely unacceptable to scream and yell at a worker, no matter where you are (via World Travelling).

Reading this Reddit user’s experience made us cringe. It’s possible Gary Busey hadn’t yet had his morning coffee, so was feeling a bit grumpy, but it’s still no excuse for acting like so mean. He’s known for his erratic conduct, so it comes as no surprise that he screamed at this poor woman. She didn’t deserve it at all. He certainly lost a ton of fans after reading one of the most horrible celebrity encounters on this list. Since the actor was standing behind her and yelling, she immediately ordered her breakfast and got out of the store. That’s a jittery way to start the day, and they hadn’t even had their caffeine yet (via World Travelling).

Dane Cook is an American comedian who doesn’t sound like such a funny guy after all. We get feeling stressed, but the fact that Dane Cook acted like a child and complained about where he went to get food makes him sound like a total mess. Even though these celebrity encounters are downright mortifying, at least they’re showing who these people are down to the core. He sounds impatient and rude. Maybe he needs to find another career if he’s spending his life running around yelling at people. It’s unbelievable that people run around doing things for him when all he does is yell and complain (via World Travelling).

We’re not that surprised to read about another person who was nearly knocked down by a celebrity. These celebrity encounters make famous people sound like horrible, rude people. This Reddit user was actually on the way to composer John William’s shows when he almost ran him over with his car. He doesn’t sound very composed, as a composer should. Even though the guy has won 25 Grammy Awards, it doesn’t mean he can drive his car around recklessly. We can only hope he learned from the experience and never did that again (via World Travelling).

This list has shown us multiple aggressive celebrity drivers, but the worst one of all is Oprah. Even though this Reddit user admits they don’t like her for other reasons, we can see why this reason alone is enough to despise the celebrity. One of their celebrity encounters involved a potential car accident, Oprah, and an eight-year-old. How could she curse out an eight-year-old? Not only did Oprah appear out of nowhere, but she was speeding and then proceeded to curse out the family for being in the way. She’s the one to blame in this situation. Maybe she needs to take another driving course because it sounds like she has no idea what she’s doing behind the wheel (via World Travelling).

Understandably, Heath Ledger went a little loopy, considering he spent a month alone in a hotel room to prepare for his role as The Joker. He had to immerse himself in the mind of a book villain, and it sounds like he carried that mindset throughout the entire production set. This poor Reddit user had to share the elevator with him, and instead of simply standing next to her, he acted like a total creep and stayed in his character. He was trying to keep his mindset but at the cost of the mental state of the employees. At least this woman has a good story out of the experience (via World Travelling).

It sounds like celebrities have huge egos. As we’ve mentioned before, they expect everyone to know who they are and bow down to their every need. It’s ridiculous to expect an entire society to know who you are. People have better things to do with their lives than obsess over celebrities. This Reddit user shared one of their hilarious celebrity encounters with Hillary Duff. Even though he was the cook, he took her order. He pretended not to know who she was, completely trolling her. Duff was shocked that this chef didn’t know who she was. He even had the backup of his entire kitchen team, who pretended not to know who she was. In a way, she deserves the embarrassment for assuming this guy knew her (via World Travelling).

If you accidentally spotted a celebrity in real life, would you keep it cool? Probably not. It’s shocking to run into someone famous when we least expect it, just as this Reddit user’s sister experienced. When she was in Hawaii, where Lost was being filmed, she accidentally ran into Dominic Monaghan. He portrayed Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck in the Lord of the Rings. This is one of the most awkward celebrity encounters to read, even though Monaghan seemed to find it funny. She shouted “Ah! Hobbit!” when she ran into him, and he laughed it off. He’s probably gotten that reaction too many times to count. At least he doesn’t know her name (via World Travelling).

Instead of asking for a microphone as a normal person would do, Johnny Depp invited a young student on stage after he shouted he couldn’t hear him. To be fair, the student interrupted Depp’s speech, but as punishment, he walked over to him and brought him on stage. Everyone in the audience could see. Maybe the kid was too ecstatic to care. It’s almost like making a child sit in the corner for punishment. This doesn’t sound too bad, even if it is one of those embarrassing celebrity encounters that we’ll never forget. We wouldn’t put it past Depp to do this either, since he’s very wild and outlandish. It suits his character (via World Travelling).

We all make mistakes, and that includes running into things. We’re all human after all, and we can’t always be in tip-top shape. This is especially true when we randomly see a celebrity standing in a shopping mall. Emeril Lagasse is a chef and restaurateur who’s known for his bad temper. While at the mall promoting his show, this poor Reddit user was in so much shock seeing him that he walked straight into the camera, knocking it down. Instead of showing compassion, Lagasse yelled at the kid and shamed him, losing a fan pretty quickly after that (via World Travelling).

Hulk Hogan’s real name is Terry Eugene Bollea. He’s the most well-known wrestler in the world. He has a strong, eccentric personality that matches his profession. He apparently also cuts people at the barber shop and steals movies from Blockbuster. Both sound inconsiderate and rude, although stealing those movies sounds a lot worse. Where is he putting those movies, anyway? Is he collecting them? He sounds like someone you would ban from renting movies ever again (via World Travelling).

This is seriously one of the most uncomfortable celebrity encounters on this list. Not only did David Hasselhoff curse out someone, but he cursed out a little kid. This Redditor spotted Hasselhoff on Redondo Beach at the height of Baywatch’s popularity. When he asked for an autograph, he got something a bit different than a simple signature. We get the annoyance of having people constantly approach you for a signature, but this took it a bit too far. Hasselhoff could’ve just said no, but he had to go so far as to curse and yell at this innocent child, telling him to “beat it” and to “f**ck off” (via World Travelling).

As one of Hollywood’s most well-known actors, Samuel L. Jackson is nothing short of famous. He starred in Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained, to name a few. Though, working on set for these movies still hasn’t taught him table manners. He sneezed on this poor Redditor’s sleeve, who had to pretend a “chunk of phlegm” wasn’t on his arm. Let’s hope Jackson didn’t mean to do that and didn’t even realize what he’d done. It’s quite respectful of the Redditor to pretend nothing happened and silently sneak away to the back of the restaurant to clean off his sleeve. He certainly saved a lot of embarrassment on Jackson’s end (via World Travelling).

When we see someone famous, it feels like an honor to give something back to them. After all, they’ve given us so much entertainment through their movies and TV shows. But this Redditor shared one of their awkward celebrity experiences when they offered to buy Mike Myers a drink. Myers starred in a myriad of movies, including Shrek and Austin Powers, so you’d think he’s a friendly dude. Instead of politely declining the drink offering, he reacted rudely, and told the Redditor to “save his money for my next movie”. This response changed our perception of him, and it’s unlikely that this Redditor will go and see his next movie after this encounter. Maybe grumpy Shrek is a decent portrayal of what he’s like in real life (via World Travelling).

Leonard Nimoy
