Most famous actresses work incredibly hard to achieve success on-screen. But once some of them climb that ladder, it doesn’t mean they’re immune to falling right off.

Many celebrities have experienced steep downfalls throughout their careers by making offensive comments or having poor behavior. Certain actresses were riding their high horses on the red carpet, only to cause drama behind the scenes. In the end, no one wants to work with them anymore. Check out these once-famous starlets who ran afoul of Tinseltown right here.

Things started out well for Lindsay Lohan. She starred in Freaky Friday and Mean Girls and gained fame. But following that success, Lohan dug herself into a black hole. She had several public arrests and stints in rehab, which earned her such a bad reputation that no one wanted to work with her anymore. Back in 2007, she was convicted of drunk driving and using drugs. In an interview, she said, “It was the first time I’d taken drugs. I was out in a club with people I shouldn’t have been with, and took cocaine, and got in the car. It was so stupid.” She’s managed to pick her life back up, though no one wants to work with her anymore (Manchester Evening News).

Roberts was once America’s most beloved actress. And even though she isn’t as sinful or negative as some of the other people on this list, she’s not an angel, either. Back in the ’90s, she engaged in some mild diva behavior that set her back. During the filming of the movie Hook, Spielberg referred to her as “Tinkerhell” because of how she behaved on set, throwing spontaneous temper tantrums. Moments before she was going to receive an Oscar award, she threw a temper tantrum backstage (Daily Mail).

You probably know Lea Michele as Rachel on Glee. The show portrayed her character as a know-it-all, stubborn person, but still likable. But behind closed doors, her co-stars didn’t appreciate working alongside her. Coworkers like Kate Hudson said she was horrendous to work with. At one point, she tried to apologize for her behavior, saying, “Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused.” Even though she apologized, it hasn’t helped her career (Best Life Online).

Cybill Shepherd has been acting since the 1970s and thinks she’s the best thing to ever walk this planet. Even though she seems magical on screen, she doesn’t have many fans. She allegedly fought with Bruce Willis too many times to count. There’s even a CSI episode with a murdered character based on Shepherd. Her acting was overshadowed by an affair with her director Peter Bogdanovich. According to the LA Times, her sitcom was a “really, unusually, painfully difficult show.” She was just too difficult to work with (Nicki Swift).

If you’re a fan of Desperate Housewives, then you probably recognize Teri Hatcher, who played Susan. Even though many fans around the world appreciated her on the show, her co-workers had a different opinion. Marc Cherry, the creator of the show, said, “Nicollette pulled me aside and told me that Teri Hatcher was the meanest woman in the world because of how she was acting.” Her co-workers refused to be in photoshoots with her. Later on, in an interview, she said, “What happened at the end of Desperate Housewives was degrading and demoralizing. It sent me under a rock. I grappled with what happened, losing faith in people and not trusting the business at all. I didn’t know that I wanted anything to do with the business for some time.” (Yahoo).

Gwyneth Paltrow is on this list because she has a strong opinion that’s deterred people from wanting to work with her. She’s one of those people who can’t keep her thoughts or opinions to herself. She’s complained about Reese Witherspoon and the Met Gala, to name a few. She even trash-talked America, saying, “I love the English lifestyle, it’s not as capitalistic as America. People don’t talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner. I like living here because I don’t fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans.” That alone lost her tons of fans and job opportunities (Nicki Swift).

Rachel Ray is enough to make any delicious meal turn sour. Many people have spoken outwardly about their troubles working with the celebrity chef, and apparently, working with her is a complete nightmare. She berates employees in front of everyone, and other celebrities have publicly expressed their disdain for Rachel Ray. In an interview, Anthony Bourdain said, “It’s like railing against the pounding surf. She only grows stronger. Her ear-shattering tones louder and louder. We KNOW she can’t cook. She shrewdly tells us so. So… what is she selling us? Really? She’s selling us satisfaction, the smug reassurance that mediocrity is quite enough.” She’s lost friends, fans, and potential job opportunities due to her nasty attitude (Mashed).

This actress is a bit more under the radar when it comes to snarkiness and backstabbing. She seems to have an opinion about every woman castmate she’s ever worked with. One of these includes filming with Meryl Streep and publicly insulting her. It made her coworkers lose trust in her. At least she’s recognized her wrongdoings somewhat, and in an interview has said, “I’ve done everything wrong so there’s no explanation as to why I’m still around.” We’re not sure, either (The Guardian).

Many people fell in love with Jennifer Lopez but not because she’s an amazing actress, because she’s such a diva. She’s a nightmare to work with, so it’s better to watch the drama unfold from afar. She yells out ridiculous demands and has an attitude that no one wants to be around. Fans on TikTok recently shared their rude interactions with Lopez. This alone made many people not want to work with her. One time, she even humiliated her husband, Ben Affleck, by taking back the huge, generous tips he was leaving workers in casinos (Your Tango).

Megan Fox was once one of the hottest celebrities out there, but her diva behavior made it difficult for anyone to work with her. When she compared director Michael Bay to Hitler, she was immediately fired from the set. In an interview, she said, “He’s like Napoleon, and he wants to create this insane, infamous madman reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he’s a nightmare to work for, but when you get him away from set, and he’s not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he’s so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all. And it’s endearing to watch him.” One of the most famous directors in the world didn’t want to work with her after that, and for good reason (Koimoi).

You may have seen Sean Young in Blade Runner. She was on her way to becoming a huge star, but unfortunately, her nasty personality got in the way. Her and Harrison Ford’s love scene in Blade Runner resembled more of a hate scene. She said, “When you’re 20 and you’re insecure, you hope that your leading man will be like, ‘It’s ok, you’ll be fine’… and Harrison wasn’t particularly generous that way.” In 2008, she suffered from alcoholism, which negatively impacted her career. Because she refused to act professionally on set, she was fired from the movie Wall Street, and since then, not many directors have wanted to work with her anymore (Eighties Kids).

Over the past few years, Evan Rachel Wood has risen to fame thanks to Westworld. Even though Wood climbed the ladder to fame, it doesn’t mean she’s a nice person to work with. Many directors have preferred not to work with her because of her negative attitude and diva behavior. She even breached a contract when she randomly decided she didn’t want to be in the movie 10 Things I Hate About Life anymore. Directors are now suing her for $30 million (Independent).

Ever since her famous role as Rose in Titanic, the world fell in love with Winslet. She’s one of those actresses who spoke openly about how annoying and draining the drama is in Hollywood. But it turns out she’s a big part of that drama. Even though her coworkers don’t mind working with her, her fans don’t like her. She’s been called out for being rude, especially to fans who waited out in the rain to see her. Some fans said, “She gave dirty looks to people in my town who waited hours to see her,” and “She always plays such warm people on the big screen, I thought she would be kind, so when she was mean, I was crushed.” Even though this might not deter directors from working with her, it will certainly affect her fandom (IOL).

If there was a female celebrity who ruled the ’80s, it was Madonna. But she let all that fame and fortune go to her head. She has strange, outlandish requests that have made quite a few of her coworkers back away. Madonna has had staff import her furniture into her dressing room, decorate her room with six-inch flowers, and made everyone refer to her as “M.” She travels with no less than 200 people on her work excursions, has an on-call yoga instructor, and requires a new toilet seat at every gig she plays (The Talko).

Even though Lacey Chabert is well-known and well-liked, especially as Gretchen Wieners from Mean Girls, it doesn’t mean she’s pleasant to work with. She’s a mom and prioritizes her children, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But it means she’s more difficult to work with. She’ll also refuse to work in certain roles because of the way their faith is portrayed in the film. Worst of all, her movies haven’t done well, so no one wants to hire an unsuccessful actress (Nicki Swift).

Audiences loved Stone for decades thanks to her roles in Basic Instinct and Total Recall. But apparently, watching her on screen is completely different than trying to work with her, who is a bigger diva than we all have realized. She can steal a scene, but she also knows how to make a scene. Directors have dished about her on-set ego and diva-like behavior, but those extend into the real world, too. The actress was once detained in a Utah airport for throwing a fit about a checked bag. While Stone has denied the ordeal ever happened, witnesses on the plane and at the airport have all confirmed that she was making a scene (Nicki Swift).

Even though Monroe stole the hearts of many people around the world, it doesn’t mean she was well-liked. She was one of the most difficult actresses to work with in Hollywood. Monroe was mainly a nervous wreck who hid in her dressing room and refused to speak with people. She flubbed her lines and was constantly late to shoots. Author Michelle Vogel said, “She was a nervous wreck filming scenes, often breaking out into a rash or being physically ill at the thought of performing.” Her hard work helped her make her way to fame, though she didn’t make it there easily (Smithsonian Mag).

Aguilera is not easy to work with, and according to some, had ridiculous demands that deterred people from wanting to hire her. According to Radar Online, “She was really difficult to work with this season. Tensions between her and Adam were consistent, but she also just had a really bad attitude. She showed up late a lot, took forever for hair and makeup, and was just very demanding.” She’d also demand to see every single shot of her to make sure she was only seen in a flattering light (Life and Style Mag).

Knightley might seem like one of the most down-to-earth actresses but that doesn’t mean she is. According to one director, she’s a hassle to work with. She didn’t want to take any risks with her acting and was constantly followed by an entourage of people who tended to get in the way of filming. One director doesn’t want to work with her, and that’s John Carney. He said, “Keira has an entourage that follows her everywhere so it’s very hard to get any real work done, and so I was very ready to come back to Ireland and make films that nobody cared about who was in it or any of that crap… I learned that I’ll never make a film with supermodels again.” (Cinema Blend).

If you’re a big fan of The O.C., then you probably recognize Mischa Barton as Marissa. Unfortunately, Barton struggled with several issues during her career that earned her a bad name. She started drinking and showing up late to set. Not only that, but she got a DUI and was prone to forgetting her lines while filming. Barton had an explanation though, and said, “A lot was going on. Whether I was late or not doesn’t excuse certain behavior from individuals in powerful positions. Everyone experiences things differently and where I acknowledge some of my past behavior may not have been helpful in certain instances, I will tell my truth when I feel ready.” She was on her way to fame and fortune, but her bad behavior made many people not want to work with her because of how unreliable she was (Page Six).

With wild mood swings and poor behavior, Catherine Zeta-Jones was a nightmare to work with. She was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which would explain the mood swings, though it still deterred many directors from working with her. She had an unmatchable, diva attitude that made it difficult for anyone to work with her. Zwta-Jones also chooses to spend most of her time with her opulent, luxurious lifestyle and chooses risky roles. That makes it difficult for anyone to want to cast her (Nicki Swift).

As one of the most beautiful models in the world, Campbell stole the hearts of millions. She doesn’t act like a diva, but she does act like a complete jerk. Campbell throws around rude comments and even a horrible punch from time to time. She’s shown up in court several times with assault charges, including her assistant. Based on her director, Campbell said, “That stigma of his words and his statement to the press messed my work up for many, many years. I’ve heard ‘crazy,’ I’ve heard ‘nightmare,’ I’ve heard ‘difficult.’ I was called difficult because I opened my mouth. Period.” This erratic behavior has deterred a lot of people from wanting to work with her (People).

Lindsay Lohan
